32,000 aces of untouched parklands should be enough for you to get a start in Rockland County. The towns of Suffern and Sloatsburg are reachable by train and are wonderful entry points for Harriman State Park - NY’s 2nd largest state park. and they are reachable by train. Go hike, then retreat into one of these two towns for some foodie eats.

Stony Point
Stony Point is home to a great mix of activities and experiences like the Penguin Rep Theatre—the only professional theatre in Rockland County and critically acclaimed as “the gutsiest little theatre” by the New York Times. Grab the clubs and head for Patriot Hills Golf Club—a 195-acre, 18-hole golf course.
Piermont
Piermont is an active art and music community with fabulous riverviews of the Hudson. Visit the SOUK on Sparkill Creek an indoor epicuran upmarket with a diverse selection of prepared fine foods and produce from Hudson Valley farms and restaurants.
Haverstraw
Haverstraw is rich in history—once known as “The Brick Making Capital of the World.” Haverstraw is also a great outdoor destination with a handful of parks perfect for fishing, boating, relaxing and more. Visit the 34-acre Haverstraw Bay County Park on the west bank of the river and its Sept. 11 Memorial, a commemorative tribute to the Rockland County natives who were affected by Sept. 11th.
Nyack
Experience Art & Soul on the Hudson in Nyack. The energetic, eclectic village is a creative hub with unique opportunities to enjoy music, film, theater, crafts and art. Beyond that Nyack is a great recreational destination, for sailing, kayaking, fishing, cycling and hiking. From the River Towns to the Ramapo Highlands there’s much beauty and history to explore cycling along Rockland County bike routes 9W, 59, 202, 304. The Gran Fondo New York is a huge bike tour that comes through Rockland County once a year and is worth experiencing. Consider following Seven Lakes Drive which traverses Harriman and Bear Mountain State Parks.

The Palisades Center is the 8th largest mall in America and has become an indoor entertaimnet venue. But, don’t miss the genuine feel of the downtown shops in the river towns and small villages that are ready for exploring.
Stony Point Battlefield State Historic Site and Lighthouse
Stony Point is a historic community that played an important role in securing our country’s independence in the American Revolution. On weekends see a living history camp with blacksmithing, musketry, artillery, cooking, 2 pm battle tour, and demonstrations.
